  • Are your comforters constructed with baffle boxes or are they sewn through?
Fabric baffles are sewn in our warmest comforters, Levels 3 and 4, as well as our Oversized Queen and Oversized King sizes. These fabric baffles keep the top and bottom fabrics from touching. All other comforters have sewn-through stitching for evenly distributed down.
  • How do your duvet covers close?
Duvet covers have a hidden button closure as well as interior corner ties. To keep the comforter and duvet cover secure, simply tie the corner ties to the fabric loops that are sewn onto each comforter.
  • What is the difference between goose and duck down?
Goose down clusters are larger than duck down clusters, so they trap more air and are more insulating. Therefore, comforters and pillows made with goose down have more loft with less weight. Duck down clusters are smaller and denser.
  • What is your most popular pillow firmness?
Our most popular pillow firmness level is Medium – perfect for back and side sleepers.
  • How is the synthetic fill different from down in terms of feel, warmth and breathability?
Our synthetic fill has the look and feel of lofty down, with fibers that cluster like 500 Fill Power Down. While the fills are very similar, synthetic fill pillows tend to provide more support and stability than down fill pillows, which are softer. After being compressed, synthetic pillows spring back to their original shape faster than down pillows.

Down fill pillows and comforters have greater malleability, and are also warmer.

Down is a natural product, it is much more breathable in addition to being more sustainable.
  • What is thread count?
Simply put, thread count is the number of yarns in a square inch of fabric. Higher thread count bedding used to signify that the fabric was lighter, softer and more durable. However, it’s no longer accurate to gauge excellence based on thread count alone. Other factors, such as the fabric quality and weight should also be considered when selecting bedding.
  • What is the difference between comforter fabric shells?
Royal River Trading offers comforter shells in a range of fabric qualities, all made from 100% cotton:
Batiste is extremely light in weight with excellent durability

  • How do I choose between comforter warmth levels?
We have a comforter for every climate and warmth preference. If you’re not sure which level to choose, we recommend choosing a lighter weight, lower level comforter.

    Blanket Level
Our lightest comforter, designed for the warmest climates and bedrooms.

    Summer Level
Our second-lightest comforter, designed for year-round use.

    Level 1
Our most popular comforter, providing the warmth of 1-2 blankets, without the weight.

    Level 2
Our warm, cozy comforter, designed for cold sleepers and cool rooms.

    Level 3
Our second-warmest comforter. Interior baffles provide even more warmth.

    Level 4
Our warmest comforter, with extra fill and interior fabric baffles. Designed for the coldest temperatures and climates.
  • What is a 95/5 blend of feathers and down?
Made from 95% Small Goose Feathers/5% Goose Down, this superior quality blend offers more support than down alone.
  • How does the fill power of the down affect the quality of the comforter?
Higher fill power down is lighter, softer, loftier and of a better quality. Fill power measures the volume that one ounce of down occupies. Down clusters are larger in higher fill power down, so they trap more air and are more insulating, with less weight.

Our comforters are made with the following qualities of down:
Premium European or USA Synthetic Fill: Our hypoallergenic fill has fibers that loft and cluster just like natural down.
600 White Duck Down or 600 White Goose Down: Premium quality down exceeding that of most retailers.
700 White Duck Down or 700 European White Goose Down: Softer and lighter than the best down sold by most department stores.
800 European White Goose Down: We use this special down in our finer quality pillows and comforters.
900 European White Goose Down: Exceptional in the world market. We research and only buy small lots that meet our strict standards.
Exclusive 1,000 European White Goose Down: The finest down we've ever seen and we have the North American exclusive.
  • How does the Temperature Regulating Comforter work? Can it still work effectively with a duvet cover?
The concept may seem extraordinary, but the science behind it is quite simple. As you sleep, your body undergoes periods of differing temperatures, resulting in a build-up of heat and humidity. Our Temperature Regulating Comforter uses hi-tech mesh fabric to transport excess warmth away from the body, preventing perspiration and bringing your sleeping temperature back to a comfortable range. During colder seasons, the two-layered climate zones work as a pocket, warming the cooler air to the same temperature as your body, allowing for undisturbed sleep.

Duvet covers may be used with this comforter. For best results, we recommend selecting one that is lightweight to maximize the comforter’s temperature regulating properties.
