Cuddledown Manufacturing Story

Cuddledown has been manufacturing premium comforters, pillows, and featherbeds from fine imported materials in Yarmouth, Maine since 1973. We began with just one product - our trademark down comforter. It didn't take long for people to catch on to how warm and cozy our comforters are, making it possible to turn down the heat at night - even in the coldest Maine winter. As the popularity of our signature comforters grew, the business expanded and the first catalog was printed. Cuddledown’s founders opened a small shop that served as the base for catalog operations, and the company began to gain national exposure. Today, Cuddledown products continue to be sold in the catalog, as well as on cuddledown.com and through wholesale and hospitality accounts by Royal River Trading. You can find our products at other fine retailers and enjoy sleeping on Cuddledown bedding while staying at fine hotels and resorts nationwide.

We take pride in individually crafting each comforter, pillow and featherbed with care, focused on the quality of the materials that go into the process, as well as the quality of each finished product.  We pay particular attention to the details, from start to finish. We use downproof fabrics with double-stitched reinforced seams, and piping ensuring the fills remain inside and don’t leak out. And each item is carefully inspected before being shipped, so only the best quality leaves our manufacturing facility. 

Our bedding experts visit suppliers throughout the year to ensure that the quality of raw materials meets Cuddledown's high standards. We also use independent laboratories to test the fill power of the down and take pride in having been certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) by Control Union. This certification reflects our longstanding commitment to the responsible sourcing of down.

All of Cuddledown’s manufactured products and most of our fine linens are also tested for harmful substances and certified to meet the strict global safety criteria of the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. Certification number: 18.HUS.35306 Hohenstein. The testing required for Oeko-Tex® certification is exhaustive, but Cuddledown and Royal River Trading place the highest value on fabric quality and safety for our customers.
